A low maintenance garden is the answer for people who have excuses when it comes to create their own garden: “I do not have the time to plant and take care of a garden”, “I do not spend too much time at home”, “I do not have a green thumb, gardening is just not for me” or even worse “Every plant I have taken care of died”.

No more excuses, planting a low maintenance garden is the thing for you! Low maintenance gardening does not consume too much of your time, and is a pleasure to own one. You can ease your mind and soothe your soul, and the fresh air is very good for your lungs, as well. All you need to do is pay attention to the plants you choose to keep in your garden, this means, plants that do not require a lot of tending.

Therefore, the first step towards a low maintenance garden is to opt for the right plants. You need to take into consideration your space, the climate of the area you live in and the time you are willing to offer to invest in your plants. It is recommended that you avoid perennials that spread fast and choose plants that are easy to take care of, such as a shrub (heather or compact azaleas).

Using the right containers will help you save time. IF you want to reduce the time spent on watering the plants, opt for a self-watering container that keeps the moist in the soil for a long time by retaining an appropriate amount of water, allowing you not to worry about constantly watering the plants.
Your garden can also look gorgeous thanks to the well-chosen pots and flowers.

Less is more when it comes to creating a low maintenance garden. Therefore covering some of the areas with hardscape (such as stones, wood, concrete) will help you reduce the weedy areas that are quite annoying and time consuming every time you need to clean them. Also, use all your gardening space, as any free space left is an opportunity for weeds to grow, and we do not want that, at all. Therefore, covering your gardening area with plants will reduce the weeds.
